Today students reviewed Tuesday night's column of homework problems. Then, we did a quick recap of Properties from yesterday. Afterwards, students learned about terms and like terms. We watched an extremely annoying introductory video with a man ordering in an insane way at a fast food restaurant. However, this led us into a discussion about how he could've condensed his order to make it simpler for him and the lady running the register.
Students then did an in-class activity where each was given a sheet of paper with a term on it such as: x, 2y, 16, 4x, a, 3b, .... Then, they had to group themselves together. All the x's go together, all the a's, etc. Then, we discussed what each group would form if their terms were combined within the group: 2x + 3x = 5x.
Then, we did an interactive Flipchart (slideshow) that reinforced the concepts noted above. Afterwards, students worked independently on an Identifying Like Terms Digital Practice.
The Digital Practice is due TOMORROW!!!

5th Period --> Today we continued working with division. I am so proud of my 5th period kids! Many of them are absolutely ROCKING division. Division is a really really tough topic/concept so I'm incredibly proud. Today we tried to conquer getting rid of the decimal in the divisor. We took notes and then we split into small groups.
Mrs. Morgan's group worked through a practice sheet in class. Most of my group completed the entire first side. Way to go you guys!
Mr. Forney's group had items to finish that they hadn't finished in class or at home for homework. Therefore, his group got caught up on what they owed us.

Today we reviewed Wednesday night's column of homework problems on our weekly spiral. Then, we discussed multiplying decimals from yesterday. A few students still needed to turn in the multiplying practice from class yesterday because they had to finish for homework. Afterwards, students had 7 minutes in class to play one of two interactive multiplying decimal games that I assigned through Google Classroom. Needless to say, they LOVED them! In fact, we struggled to stop playing them. LOL!
Then, students got out a sheet of scratch paper and worked through 10 multiplying decimal problems that were assigned in a Form through Google Classroom. Everyone that was present in class today finished this assignment. Prior to the end of class we looked ahead to our next topic...Long Division.

Today we reviewed Tuesday night's column of homework. Students had 2 full minutes to work on this in class.
Then, we reviewed adding and subtracting decimals from yesterday. We specifically went over #7 and #8 from our practice problems yesterday. Afterwards, students recalled long multiplication from elementary school. Many of them struggled to remember the concept at first. However, after a few minutes of slowly working through a 3-digit by 3-digit problem most of them began recalling how to solve it from Elementary. Then, students took notes over multiplying decimals. Afterwards, students completed the back side of their practice paper from yesterday. Those that did not finish need to complete for homework tonight. |

We took notes and then students were allowed to work with a partner of their choice to complete one side of a practice paper. Students had 15 minutes to complete 8 problems in class. Some did not finish and need to complete the rest for homework tonight. See photo below. |
