Today was absolutely insane in the membrane! I would like to thank all of you wonderful fabulous amazing people for sticking with it and persevering through today's crazy class full of interruptions.
Today students turned in their weekly homework 3.9. Just because I am giving you all a 100% if you've completed ALL the problems because why not! You deserve it!
Then, we reviewed combining like terms and distributing from earlier in the school year. Except, today we threw in NEGATIVES!!! What?! Negatives make everything a bit crazier! But, you all did phenomenal with it. I had NO DOUBTS! After completing notes, everyone received a practice sheet. I'll try my best to make a pdf of the sheet for those that were absent and you can print at home. The sheet is due in Google Classroom before the end of the day Tuesday. Just take a photo, covert to pdf and upload. Easy peasy!

Thursday, March 5th
Today we reviewed Thursday night's column of homework problems. Then, I spoke to everyone regarding the upcoming additional homework assignments. Now that we've reached our 7th grade math units students may have some additional homework each night. I spoke to them at length regarding making good use of class time and time in general. I think today was a good lesson because they had class time to finish an assignment, but many decided to spend a bit of time socializing instead. Therefore, many went home with additional homework.
Then, we took notes over how to add and subtract "rational numbers" --> decimals and fractions that are positive and negative. The fractions were a weak link but with practice we'll overcome them. Afterwards, students worked through a front/back practice sheet. We'll grade our weekly homework in class tomorrow and our practice sheet from class today!

Those who did not finish in the allotted class time must finish for homework. The assignment is due by tomorrow's class period.
Afterwards, we moved on to learning how to use the number line to add and subtract. The number line is quite different than using counters. However, according to the 7th grade standards students must be able to add and subtracting using three different methods.

Tuesday, January 28th
Today students reviewed Tuesday night's column of homework problems. Then, we finished our notes over Volume that we began yesterday. Afterwards, students were given 10 minutes to cut/paste and doodle their notes. Then, we moved on to breaking down the standard. The specific standard states that students should be able to calculate the number of unit cubes that fill a right rectangular prism when given the fractional unit cube. Therefore, we spent the remainder of class time learning how to identify the number of unit cubes in a given rectangular prism when provided with the dimensions of the unit cubes. This is quite a complicated topic for many students due to the lack of fraction foundations. Those that are well equipped with fractional knowledge will do very well on this concept. I'll do my very best to work with everyone to ensure understanding. Tomorrow we'll continue our investigation into this topic.
Monday, January 27th
Today students received their weekly homework sheet 3.3. We reviewed Monday night's column of homework problems. Wednesday, January 22nd
Today we reviewed Wednesday night's column of homework problems. Then, we took a small bit of time to review the Geometry Project expectations. Also, several students did NOT fill out the Google document posted last night concerning their project due on Feb. 3rd.
After our discussion, we reviewed how to find surface area. I chose a triangular prism to help us with our review since they tend to be some of the most difficult to find the surface area of. As expected, several students struggled remembering to take half when finding the area of the triangular bases. Also, many continued to see each rectangular side as equal or congruent when the triangular bases were isosceles triangles. Needless to say it was a great problem to review. After reviewing, students got with a partner and worked through a "Finding Surface Area" packet put out by the state of Georgia. Some finished and turned this in before the end of class but most need to finish for homework tonight.

Today students completed Tuesday's column of homework problems. Then, we took about 15 minutes to create some 3D shapes. These shapes are NOT for a grade. However, it will benefit you to have these in class this week as we discuss and investigate Surface Area of these shapes. Having a model of the 3D shape will help put things into perspective for you.
Afterwards, we learned how to find the surface area of 3D shapes by using the net and by drawing the net when given the 3D shape.
ADDITIONAL HOMEWORK: Please go to Google Classroom and complete the assignment I just assigned about your Geometry Project.

We learned how to find area of a triangle and how to use the area to find the missing height and/or base. After notes, students worked with a partner to solve complex problems posted around the room. Monday we'll finish the problems around the room and check them.
Thursday, January 9th
Today students had class time to try their best and finish the Parallelogram Gizmo Investigation from yesterday. Many finish, but a few still need to finish. Those that still need to finish must finish for homework tonight.
Then, we reviewed types of quadrilaterals and how to find area of certain quadrilaterals such as a rectangle, square, and parallelogram.

Tuesday, November 5th
Today we reviewed Tuesday night's column of homework problems. Then, we checked the 8 problems that students had for additional homework last night. I'd like to give a huge "Thank you" to those that actually did their homework! You guys ROCK!!! To the rest of you...you'll receive 10 points off the paper.
Then, we completed the remaining 8 problems on the paper. I showed students how to derive the equation based on the linear graph without use of the table of values. They actually learned an 8th grade standard today!! Whoop Whoop!! Way to go you guys!
After all that amazingness, they worked through an extensive real world packet with a partner over Relationships between two variables. We checked them right before the end of class. Students are to keep these amazing packets! Oh, and they also received their Study Guide for Thursday's Functions Quiz.

Today students graded their homework in class. Then, Mrs. Dilbeck (my high school class aid on Wed - Fri) showed the students a sample Algebra II problem. We had indicated the tiers of Algebra to them yesterday and had her bring a sample problem today. It blew their minds. However, they were familiar with many of the aspects of the problem such as: variables, exponents, coefficients, and constants.
After her sample problem and discussion on higher level Algebra we moved on to notes over "Relationships between two variables". Today students learned how to write a rule from a table of values, how to determine the independent and dependent variables from a situation, and how to write an equation from a table of values.
We ran out of time in class, therefore, students must complete the 8 problems circled on the sheet pictured below.

Today students received their weekly homework sheet that is due each Friday. Then, we played an interactive multiples game. Afterwards, we reviewed factors and multiples with a quick video. Then, we took notes titled, "Multiples + LCM". After our notes, students finished the LCM side of the practice paper they received on Friday. They worked with a partner to complete this. Then, we checked it in class.
We finished the class by gluing the Partner Practice in the notebook and then students began working on an independent practice with GCF and LCM. Tomorrow students will finish the independent practice in class. |
